About This Policy

At DOGUE, we are dedicated to protecting the privacy of every pup parent, team member, and partner we work with. We respect your trust and take your privacy seriously - whether you shop online, visit our boutiques, stay at DOGUE Country Retreat or simply browse our website.

This policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. By using our website or engaging with DOGUE, you agree to this Privacy & Data Security Policy and the website’s Terms and Conditions.

If you do not agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy or the Terms and Conditions, you should not use the website.

1. The information we collect

We only collect information that helps us provide you with the best possible experience, from personalised shopping to safe and timely deliveries.

This may include:

  • Name and contact details (including residential or business address, delivery address, email address, telephone number);
  • Pet ownership details, shopping habits and preferences and details of products and services you have purchased from us;
  • Marketing preferences, including the type of marketing materials you wish to receive and the method of delivery (email, SMS or other); and
  • If you are a candidate for employment, we may collect other information. This may include information relating to your employment history, working eligibility rights, suitability for the role you are applying for, and your referee details.

Payment Information
Payments on our website are processed securely by Shopify and/or our selected payment gateway. DOGUE does not collect or store full credit card numbers. We only receive limited details to help identify your order (e.g. card type, last four digits, and in some cases expiry month/year). All card data is encrypted and handled by the payment processor in accordance with PCI-DSS requirements.

Third party sites

DOGUE’s website or communications may also contain links to websites which are owned or operated by other parties. You should make your own enquiries as to the privacy policies of these parties. We are not responsible for information on, or the privacy practices of, any third-party websites.

Anonymity and Pseudonymity
You have the option of not identifying yourself or using a pseudonym, when dealing with us (where this is lawful and practicable for example, when making an enquiry or purchasing products from our retail stores). However, in certain circumstances, if we do not collect personal information about you, we may be unable to provide you with the products and services you have asked us to provide.

Digital Identifiers
Generally, individuals can use our digital services without identifying themselves. We may collect device identification information when you use a computer, mobile phone, smart phone, tablet, or other device to access or interact with us through our online store and websites (http://dogue.com.au) or other applications. In some cases, these identifiers may only relate to a device or may be of an aggregated or statistical nature and will not identify you as the user. In other cases, we may associate information about your use of the website and other digital services over time with your personal information (e.g. where on any occasion you have logged in, followed a link sent to you by email or we have otherwise been able to identify you).

2. How we collect information

We collect personal information from you directly, when you visit our DOGUE Boutique locations or our online store. We may collect information when you:

  • when you provide information during conversations with our team members (by phone, in person, or electronically;
  • when you make a purchase or complete purchase orders, registrations, requests or applications for our products or services or loyalty program (by phone, in person or electronically);
  • when you communicate with us during competitions, special events and promotions; and
  • where you access and interact with the website or the customer service team including via social media sites.

If you apply for employment and complete forms applicable to the recruitment and selection process, we will collect your personal information through that process.

Sometimes, we may also receive limited information from trusted third-party services (for example, payment processors or marketing platforms) - always handled securely and in line with this policy.

3. How we hold your information

We may hold your personal information in hard copy (paper) or electronic form. If you provide information to us electronically, we retain this information in our computer systems and databases. Information held in electronic form is generally held on servers controlled by us and on servers controlled by third parties under contractual arrangement with us.

We use physical security, password protection and other measures to ensure that personal information stored in electronic form is protected from misuse, interference and loss and from unauthorised access, modification and disclosure.

Personal information collected in hard copy (paper) form may be converted to electronic form. Where this occurs, generally the hard copy is securely destroyed at the end of this process. Information held in paper-based form is generally securely stored at our head office or at our retail locations. We use physical security and other measures to ensure that personal information in hard copy form is protected from misuse, interference and loss and from unauthorised access, modification and disclosure.

4. How we use your information

The main purposes for which we collect, hold and use your personal information are:

  • to provide you with products and services that you have requested from us including processing and delivering your orders
  • to communicate with you, including about products and services, competition results, special offers, and events which might interest you
  • to answer your questions, provide you with information or advice or consider and respond to requests or complaints made by you
  • to improve our website, products, and customer experience.

If you are a candidate for employment, we may use your personal information to assess your suitability for a position with us.

We also use and disclose your personal information:

  • to carry out administration, marketing, planning, risk management, fraud and loss prevention activities
  • for product and service development, quality control and research to improve the way we and our service providers provide products and services to us and you
  • to seek your feedback in relation to customer satisfaction and our relationship with you and perform research and statistical analysis using such feedback; and
  • to comply with laws or regulations or to comply with any directions given by regulators or authorities.

The kinds of third parties to whom we may disclose personal information to include delivery services providers, manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, marketing and communications agencies, data analysts, IT service providers and advisors including our professional advisors (including legal and financial advisors). We may collect, hold, use and disclose personal information for other purposes explained at the time of collection.

DOGUE does not sell or rent personal information. 

5. How we keep your data safe

Protecting your privacy and data is a top priority. We maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, or unauthorised access.

This includes:

  • Secure systems and password-protected databases
  • Role-based access control and multi-factor authentication for key systems
  • Staff privacy training and confidentiality agreements
  • Secure storage and destruction of paper records
  • Ongoing monitoring and updates to our data protection systems.

6. Marketing and your choices

We love sharing updates about new arrivals, special offers, and events - but only if you want to hear from us.

Direct Marketing

We may send you direct marketing communications to keep you informed about products and services we provide and other products and services that may be of interest to you via email, SMS, social media, or regular mail. If you have indicated a preference for a method of communication, we will endeavour to use that method wherever practical to do so.
We acknowledge and respect our customers’ choice to “opt-out” of direct marketing communication activities from us.

7. Accessing or updating your information

You have the right to access, update, or correct your personal information at any time.

To request access to your personal information, please contact us using the contact details set out below under ‘Contact Us’. In limited circumstances, access to your personal information may be declined in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles. We may charge a reasonable fee for providing access to your personal information.

We will endeavour to keep your personal information accurate, up-to-date and complete. You can assist us with this by letting us know if you notice errors or discrepancies in information we hold about you and letting us know if your details change. If you consider any personal information we hold about you is inaccurate, out-of-date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading you are entitled to request correction of the information. After receiving a request from you, we will take reasonable steps to correct your information.

8. Data Retention and Destruction

We retain personal information only as long as necessary for business or legal purposes. When it’s no longer needed, we securely delete or de-identify it.

DOGUE takes reasonable steps to delete or securely destroy or permanently de-identify your personal information where it is no longer required and to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, disclosure, loss, misuse and alteration. If you wish to have your personal information removed from our records, you may request that your personal information be deleted or securely destroyed. It will not always be possible to comply with your request to delete or destroy your personal information

9. If something goes wrong (data breaches)

If DOGUE experiences a data breach that could cause serious harm, we will take immediate steps to contain it and assess the impact. Where required under the Notifiable Data Breaches Scheme, affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) will be notified as soon as practicable.

10. Employment and Supplier Information

All DOGUE staff, contractors, and suppliers must comply with internal privacy and confidentiality standards. Our team receives privacy training, and our third-party partners are required to handle information to the same high standards we uphold.
